Digital care centre

Iceland Distance meetings
The solution is a digital care centre aimed at institutions and professional carers who want to complement their services. The digital care centre keeps professional carers informed of daily routines, appointments and activity. It is a central solution that serves the beneficiary of care and his or hers professional and informal carers alike by managing daily care plans, journal entries, care instructions and video communication.
Beneficiaries at home feels more secure when they can contact their health care providers when needed with video communication. The solution makes planning and scheduling more focused and accessible for the professional carers. It also saves time for the carers to have schedules readily available when needed. Elaboration

Needs and challenges

In a population that is growing in number of elderly citizens the need for professional care from either health care or social care workers arises.

Emphasis is made to support the elderly to maintain their independence and autonomy as well as strengthening their capabilities at home and during daily services. Each and every one is unique and needs adaptive services in order to enjoy life, feel secure and establish over all wellbeing.

Solution and function

The solution helps planning days for a person that needs daily care. Planned events can be easily followed up on a carer’s smartphone  anytime and anywhere. Built in video calls make communication easy and accessible.

Events can be followed up by a central care application which means that personel will be able to spend more time caring instead of organizing activities resulting in significantly increased care quality.

Implementation

Soft launches into production are underway in four municipalities in Iceland; Skagafjörður, Akureyri, Árborg and Mosfellsbær. Central users and beneficiaries of care are now close to 450.

A close collaboration is with the service provider to implement the solution in phases and a development cooperation is ongoing regarding further functions and add-ons.

Economy

Besides the cost of tablets and smartphones, the cost of implementing and using this service involves a monthly subscription charged per profile of beneficiaries but regardless of carers involved.

Price per month: 5 profiles 375€, 100 profiles 1400€, 500 profiles 2.750€ and 1000+ profiles 6.300€.

Process

Implementing the solution will mainly change the way of professional carer’s way of work. Communication will change from exchanging emails, written notes and multiple phone-calls to having one central information platform.

The only technological devices needed are off-the-shelf smart devices (tablets and phones) with built-in web camera, microphone and speakers and an internet connection to start use.

Directors are responsible for a succsessful implementation. Staff needs to be prepared for a change in work methods and it is important to find solidarity and positivity that the change is for the better.

More about effects

The solution benefits the professionals with planning and maintaining an overview of everyone’s schedules. It provides proof of visits and performed tasks and a communication between the elderly and their carers.

Built-in secure video calls are available and by listing personalized care an understanding of individual needs is provided.
